Welcome to the Caliope Exotic Shorthairs and Persians homepage.

Exotic Shorthairs are wonderful shorthaired versions of the Persian. They have the flat faces of the Persian but with a short, thick, plush, teddy bear look, and the usual small squeaky Persian voices. Very responsive to humans and human emotions, this breed has inherited their very tame personality and gentle ways from their Persian ancestry. They are generally entertaining playmates and inquisitive, the result of their American Shorthair and Burmese bloodlines. Recognized by all the major associations in the United States, you can find out more about Exotic Shorthairs by reading the Exotic Shorthair Breed FAQ.

The partners in this venture are Colleen Power and Mary Lou Mills. Colleen lives in Northern California and does most of the raising of kittens, while Mary Lou and family live in Western Washington State and do most of the showing. We started our Persian program in 1967, but have been concentrating on Exotic Shorthairs since 1985. Our concentration is on a high quality and small numbers of cats. Of our breeding cats, all three males are CFA grand champions, and two of our six females have granded as well.

We have been very lucky to be able to maintain a small number of cats while producing a fair number of CFA National Best of Color cats.

Studs

An Exotic Shorthair breeding program often makes use of Persians to help with the thick coats. For that reason, one of our primary studs is GRC Bolo Eyes N.F.S.

Eyes is a wonderful red classic tabby Persian male that was sold to us by Lois Bantz. He produced his first grand champion offspring at the age of 9 months (GRC Bolo Rumor Hasit).

We are presently working on grand championships on two of his Exotic Shorthaired children; both have inherited his great outgoing personality.

Our Exotic Shorthair stud, GRC Caliope On The Town, was 1994 Best Bicolor Exotic in the CFA Northwest Region. He is four years old and has an absolutely stunning personality. He is full brother to our primary breeding queen and the love of my life, GRC Caliope April Showers.

GRC Caliope Amok Time of Mar-ell is now ten years old. He was born in our first litter of Exotic Shorthairs and still sires. A real showman, he adores going to the shows and talking to all those lovely white persian girls benched next to him. He has sired several grands, including GRP Caliope Daystrom, 1989 Sixth Best LH Premier, NW Region, and GRC/GRP Caliope Mutara Nebula, 1989 National Best Brown Patched Tabby.

Queens

GRC Caliope April Showers has produced several outstanding longhairs, including a wonderful Best in Show ACFA Longhair, GRC Caliope Chico Man of Bjkatia.

GRC Jovans Rubigo of Kelsha, a tortoiseshell, has produced three grands to date, including GP NW Kelshas Chagall.

Our other proven queens are Ch. Caliope Candida, Caliope Sabrina Fair and Caliope Auriga.

Ch. Caliope Candida is now four years old and a daughter and granddaughter of Amok Time. She is an extremely rare color, a shaded cameo. We plan on keeping her daughter, sired by On The Town, a shaded tortoiseshell named Gaia.

Caliope Sabrina Fair is a daughter of Eyes and half sister to GRC Caliope C.H.I.P.S. of Sweetpeacats She is a calico and just produced a wonderful litter of bicolor and van Exotic Shorthairs.

Caliope Auriga, a wild cameo tabby, is a cross of CH KittyCharm Way Cool Jr and a smoke blue cream Exotic out of Eirewood and Metallon lines. She is the mother of CH Caliope Voyager owned by Lana Struckoff of Reno and CH Caliope Wayfarer of Sweetpeacats, owned by Flora Thompson.

And new to our family is:

Kelsha's Annie Oakley of Caliope. A black and white Persian bicolor daughter of GRC NW Bolo's Rodeo, her wonderful personality makes her a striking future mate for both Eyes and On the Town.

And still a kitten:

Caliope's Tracks of My Tears. She is a daughter of On The Town and a granddaughter of Eyes.
